Van Morrison and his band Them benefited from the New York hit factory the Brill Building when songwriter/producer Bert Berns gifted Them with the dynamic “Here Comes the Night,” released in March. Morrison’s raspy lament and the reverbed guitar of session musician Jimmy Page (later, of course, of Led Zeppelin) were given panoramic punch by Berns’s production and underscored with moody organ. The song reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 24 in the US.
